I realise now that I was very fortunate to know, from the age of 10, that I wanted to be a Nurse. I had a strong desire to make a difference and help people. Actually to be truthful, I wanted to change the world! (Once I would never had admitted this… I would have been far too embarrassed)
So, aged 17, I left home and began my studies in Nursing.
What sounds like an awful long time ago (27 years) I finished my training and graduated as a Registered Comprehensive Nurse.
My first job was in the field of Mental Health, at a large Psychiatric hospital.
I was 21 and terrified. I quickly realised though, that I was in a privileged situation to work with people at their most vulnerable. And I learnt a lot.
I learnt a helluva lot about human beings, myself included, and in particular about the fragility of the mind. This amazing creation, our mind, our inner world has always fascinated me and continues to do so. (Those who know me well, know I can rant about this for ages)
For the last few years my career has been as a mother to our beautiful twin girls.
Again, I have been very blessed to experience this. I`ve learnt an awful lot about myself, good and bad, and I would have to say, it`s been the most rewarding but hardest thing I have ever done!
But that calling or yearning to make a difference and help people has never gone away. I`ve always had an insatiable interest in Health and Wellbeing as I`ve searched and tried to heal and improve my own life. It would be fair to say, that I have pretty much devoured everything and anything to do with this subject for the last 25 years.
I`ve known for a long time that I have wanted to share my own story and experiences, to help other Woman. In particular, woman who have struggled with their weight and found it difficult to love and accept themselves. (Hmm funny…that`s been my own path)
So, I followed my heart, tried to ignore the fear, and trained as a Health Coach from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition.
And it felt like this is where I`m meant to be. All the dots from my life have been there for a reason and lead me here. This is where I can make a difference.
During my training, I was lucky enough to study with some of the worlds top Health and Wellness experts including:
Dr Andrew Weil. Director of the Arizona Centre for Integrative medicine
Dr Deepak Chopra. Leader in the field of mind-body medicine, Director of Education at the Chopra centre, bestselling author
Dr David Katz. Director of Yale universitys Prevention Research centre
Dr Walter Willett. Chair of Nutrition at Harvard Univeristy
Dr Mark Hyman. Founder and Medical director of the ultrawellness centre
Geneen Roth, bestselling author and expert on emotion eating
Gabrielle Bernstein, Motivation speaker and life coach.
